ISLAMABAD: Prime minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz says Pakistan wants de-escalation of tensions with India for the collective good of the entire region.
In an interview, he said no progress is visible in Pakistan-Indian relations until Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in power in New Delhi. However, Pakistan does not desire escalation of the situation.
Aziz said that Pakistan will continue its diplomatic efforts to improve its ties with India. However, he made it clear that Pakistan will never compromise on its principled stand on Kashmir and continue to extend political, moral, and diplomatic support to the Kashmiris struggling to get their inalienable right to self-determination.
About Afghanistan, he said that Pakistan will continue its reconciliatory role for bringing peace to the neighbouring country. The agreement between Afghan government and Hizbe Islami Chief Gulbadin Hekmatyar is a good model, he added. According to Aziz, if any other group wants to hold talks according to that model, Pakistan will welcome the dialogue process.
