A woman from Las Vegas has accused Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo of sexually assaulting her in 2009, adding that the Portuguese had made a legal settlement to pay $375,000 to keep silent over the issue.
Kaitlyn Mayoraga made the claims on Friday while speaking to German publication Der Spiegel. Mayoraga, who was 25 at that time, said in a letter written during her legal battle that she and Ronaldo met at a nightclub in Las Vegas. From there, the two went to Ronaldo’s penthouse with a couple other friends where Ronaldo sexually assaulted her.
“I screamed NO NO NO NO NO NOOOO over and over I begged you (Ronaldo) to stop. I was never so scared in my life,” the letter that was received by Der Spiegel said.
Coming out against Ronaldo could possibly backfire for Mayoraga since according to the settlement, disclosure of the incident obliges her to pay back the amount she received from the Portuguse star including additional damages.
However, Mayoraga said that she has been inspired by the MeToo campaign and that her lawyer has also assured that she can challenge the settlement in court and ‘finally get justice she has long sought’.
This is not the first time Ronaldo has been accused of sexual assault. In 2005, when he was at Manchester United, Ronaldo was accused of raping a woman in a London hotel, but the case was closed due to insufficient evidence.
