LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday has won the Senate by-election for both seats from Punjab.
PTI’s Waleed Iqbal won by-election on the general seat while Seemi Aizdi seized reserved seat for women.
The two Senate seats from Punjab had fallen vacant after Sadia Abbasi and Haroon Akhter Khan of the Pakistan Muslim League-N were de-notified for holding dual-nationality.
The polling was started at the Punjab Assembly Building from 9 am to 4 pm without any break.
The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has fielded Waleed Iqbal, the grandson of Allama Iqbal for the general seat, against the PML-N’s Chaudhry Saud Majeed of Bahawalpur while PTI has fielded Seemi Aizdi, the sister of PTI’s stalwart Jehangir Tareen against former minister for health Saira Afzal Tarar is the candidate of PML-N for a reserved seat of woman.
As many as 369 Members Punjab Assembly (MPAs) will cast their votes out of a total number of 371 while PTI and the allies have 194 votes as compared to 173 votes of the PML-N and PPP.
