The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has launched investigation into another corruption scandal involving Sharif brothers – Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif, a private TV channel reported on Friday.
The scandal is related to embezzling an amount of Rs 600 million from the national exchequer to construct a nullah for drainage of polluted water from Sharif family-owned Ramzan Sugar Mills. The NAB team has procured the records of the spending from Baldia Chiniot as part of the probe. On July 6 this year, an accountability court had sentenced former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to a total of 10 years in prison, Maryam Nawaz seven years and Capt (r) Safdar one year in prison in the Avenfield properties reference. The former prime minister and his daughter were arrested after they landed in Lahore on July 13 on way back from London. They were later released on bail on Sep 19.
