RAWALPINDI: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has dismissed Sheikh Rasheed’s plea seeking the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) order of postponing elections in his constituency, NA-60 Rawalpindi, be declared null and void.
Following the sentence of life imprisonment of Pakistan Mulsim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Hanif Abbasi, the ECP had issued notification of postponement of elections in the constituency.
Rasheed challenged the order in the LHC terming it “illegal, unwarranted and unconstitutional”.
Awami Muslim League’s chief quoted the examples of Lahore and Manshera constituencies where the polls were not suspended after the disqualification of Maryam Nawaz and Capt (R) Safdar.
However, the Rawalpindi bench of the LHC rejecting Rasheed’s plea upheld the commission’s order regarding the poll.
Rasheed’s lawyer said he would go to the Supreme Court against the decision tomorrow.
