KARACHI: Suspended Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rao Anwar on Thursday asserted that he was certain to be proven innocent by the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Naqeebullah murder case.
While talking to the journalists outside ATC, Anwar said that the present record didn’t show the fact that he caught Naqeebullah or killed him.
Suspended SSP Rao maintained the view that there was no evidence against him, adding that he has been wrongly nominated in a case irrelevant to him.
Anwar added that the Joint Investigation Team’s (JIT) report had mentioned the wrong number as his, yet the call records showed that the number was used in Karachi on March 20 while he was in Islamabad for a Supreme Court (SC) hearing on the given date.
The suspended SSP further added that the person (Saleem Jaffar) who set a bounty over his head, was later arrested and a case was registered against him.
Earlier today, ATC heard Naqeebullah murder case, however, due to the absence of the prosecution counsel representing Naqeebullah’s father Khan Muhammad.
The court adjourned the hearing until July 4, directing the prosecution to present their final arguments on the next hearing.
Former SSP Malir Rao Anwar is alleged in the encounter killing of 27 year old Naqeeb Ullah Mehsood on January 13 in the suburbs of Karachi. Naqeeb Ullah was killed on allegations of being affiliated with a terrorist organization and accused of being involved in several murders.
